Parent Tribute Pages Tips n Tidbits One of the biggest trends in yearbooks is the Parent Tribute Page. These are "ads" placed by parents, grandparents, or friends congratulating the student on their accomplishments.
Now that you've decided to do this, what size ads do you use?
The most common size ads we see are:
- 1/4 page - 4.25 x 5.5 inches (1275 x 1680px)
- 1/2 page - 8.5 x 5.5 inches (2550 x 1680px)
- full page (no bleed) - 8.5 x 11 inches (2550 x 3300px)
For additional sizes, see our Pixel vs Inches Conversion Chart
We see many of these ads designed using a word processor or presentation application so they can be sent to the adviser electronically. Although these documents look great when viewed on a computer screen, they are seldom printable quality due to the resolution of any images inserted in the document.
Here are some tidbits to help smooth the way for your ads:
-
All call for volunteers! If you have parents (or grandparents even!) who are skilled with design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Publisher, or even Snag-It, consider asking for volunteers who can work with these pages to produce 300ppi JPG, TIF, or PNG files.
-
Remember, just because a parent didn't volunteer to help on the yearbook staff doesn't mean they don't have some talent to share in creating or organizing ads.
-
Parents can also submit traditional "paste-up" boards to you. These can be a combination of printed documents and hard photographs. This is an excellent family activity over a long weekend. (Be sure to let your Rep know you intend to submit layout boards with your Online site - the due date for these boards will be earlier due to additional pre-press work.)
We want your students to be thrilled when they see their tribute page.
